Leadership coaching

What is coaching?

Coaching is about unlocking your potential - using powerful questioning and reflection to help you overcome barriers, raise your confidence, and ultimately achieve your goals. We live in a distracted, fast-paced, “always on” world, and many of my clients find that coaching is the only time they get the strategic headspace they need to make good-quality decisions.

What topics do you coach clients on?

My clients come to me with a variety of challenges and opportunities. Sometimes, they’re crystal clear from the get-go; often, they’re a bit woolly and ill-defined. Here’s some recent topics from coaching clients:

  • Newly appointed: creating maximum impact whilst rallying your team around your vision.

  • Internally promoted: re-defining your identity; working with people who were previously your peers (including those who may have also applied for your job!).

  • Organisational change: leading change-fatigued teams through long-term iterative change.

  • Being a strategic leader: extracting yourself from operational activities.

"I found the sessions with Sarah extremely useful, her style was friendly and warm but also challenging to help address some of the issues that I and others were facing as leaders. This approach has had an enormous impact on me professionally, altering some elements of my managerial style to get the most from my team, whilst also helping me to develop strategically.

Sarah is highly recommended as a coach, facilitator and thought leader in all things people in business!"

How can I get the most out of coaching?

Because of its nature, coaching relies on both of us to bring our energy, motivation and commitment. I can't wave a magic wand for you (as much as I would like to!), so you'll need to engage in the process and make time to work on the actions you set for yourself. We can discuss what's realistic in our sessions.

Where will coaching take place?

Normally, we'll have coaching online via MS Teams. I'm based in South Manchester, UK, and if you're nearby we can meet in your offices, grab a coffee, or even go for a walk. Travelling longer distances is possible where it suits us both.

I have additional needs - how can coaching work for me?

If you have any requirements which may aid your enjoyment and success with coaching (such as assistive technologies, interpreters, extra-long sessions etc), please let me know and we can work together make sure you get the most out of your coaching experience.

I've coached people with a range of mental health conditions (e.g. anxiety, depression) and people who are neurodiverse (e.g. ADHD). I am not a counsellor, and coaching should never be used as a substitute for therapeutic or medical support. However, coaching can sometimes be a useful complement. We can discuss this in strict confidence.

How many sessions will I need? How frequent will they be?

This depends on a range of things, including the complexity of the challenge or opportunity you're working through, and the amount of time you're able to dedicate to your follow-up actions. We'll have an initial complimentary conversation and I'll develop a package that's bespoke to you, which takes into consideration the time and budget you're able to invest.

Typically, clients find that 4-6 sessions, a month apart, provides them with enough stretch to take them out of their comfort zone and achieve their goals without feeling unduly stressful. Some clients want an intensive burst of weekly or fortnightly coaching to help them work through a particular challenge or opportunity. Others want to make incremental change over a much longer period, and bi-monthly or quarterly sessions are more appropriate.

How do I get started?

All good coaching relationships kick off with an introductory call. I'll ask you what you want to get out of coaching (don't worry if it's a bit woolly!), and I'll explain my approach. If we're a good fit for each other, I'll put together a package based on your needs.
